Using ShowMe for Math Targets 3.NBT.2

By now many of you have heard about the iPad app called ShowMe. There are many of these types of show and tell screen recording apps available. Some other screen recording apps available include Explain Everything, Educreations, and ScreenChomp. Which app you choose isn't as important as, how you use the app. The common core math target being addressed in the video below is 3.NBT.2.  This target reads, (Fluently add and subtract within 1000 using strategies and algorithms based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction). The lesson that you will see being conducted is differentiated by levels. There are 4 groups in the video rotating in stations. One of the stations is guided instruction (not in video) for differentiation purposes. For example the extension of this target is (Apply a mathematical algorithm to fluently add and subtract within 1000 in a new situation, providing an argument/justification for the application), which can also be demonstrated using ShowMe.  The station that accentuated independent work was the station using ShowMe. The teacher has a single account logged into ShowMe. The students were taught to open the app and work on 3.NBT.2 math problems on the iPad. The teacher can then check ShowMe later for mastery of the learning target.
